Carlotta Bailly-Borg

Winterslaap

In recent years, Carlotta Bailly-Borg has developed a multifaceted practice in which drawing, etching and sculptural elements come together in a constantly transforming visual world. In her work, images move freely between vegetable, animal and human forms. Figures appear and disappear at the same time, sliding in and out of each other and seem to reposition themselves again and again. For Hibernus #3, Bailly-Borg created five etchings in which fragmentation, distortion and overlap are central. The artist starts from the printing process itself: proof and final image mutually influence each other and remain in constant motion.

In ‘Winterslaap’ (Hibernation), cartoonish, almost human frogs float between rest and activity. Hidden under a blanket of leaves, they seem to retreat into a closed, protective environment that becomes both shelter and transitional space.

This work was created in the context of Hibernus #3.
