FAQ’s
…about our residencies:
Who are the Development Residencies intended for?
For contemporary artists of all ages – both emerging and established – who want to deepen and broaden their artistic practice. The programme is aimed at artists who are willing to experiment, try out new techniques and challenge themselves artistically in a professional and supportive environment.
Can I apply for a residency as a beginner?
Yes, prior knowledge of graphic techniques is not required. We provide introductory demonstrations and offer assistance. However, you are expected to be able to work autonomously.
Is it possible to shorten the residency?
No, each residency type has a fixed schedule that cannot be adjusted. As an artist, you are expected to be present, to make use of the studios and to follow the programme as closely as possible.
When will the next Open Call take place?
The next Open Call will be issued in the autumn of 2025. Sign up for our newsletter to be informed.
Can I apply spontaneously?
No, applying for a residency can only be done via the digital application form available on our website during the application period of the Open Call. Spontaneous applications will not be considered.
How much does a residency cost?
The participation fee is €2,500 for six weeks, including free access to the studios, technical support, basic materials and accommodation.
What is included in the participation fee?

…about our studios

There are also laser cutters, book binding machines, paper cutters, scanners, etc.
A small wood workshop is also available to residents.
When are the studios accessible?
The studios are accessible from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 to 20:00. The devices in the digital studio are accessible only in the presence of a studio coordinator.
Can I use the studios for a day project / short project of my own?
During residency periods, the studios are reserved for our residents. If you are staying here as a resident, you can freely use the studios, but the intention is not to make a full production here. This is because you share the studio with other artists, and the Development Residency is focused on experimenting and creating rather than on producing.
What digital printers are there?
You can use our RISOs (Duplicator and ComColor), the Trotec Speedy 300 lasercutter, the Mimaki UV printer and the Epson inkjet printer. There is also a photocopier and a large-format plotter in the studio.
What is your biggest screen for screen printing?
You can print on A0 format here (1189 x 841 cm). For larger sizes, we can consider the options together.
What printing techniques do you have for photographs works / prints?
There are several ways to print a photographic image. Using a CMYK split, you can screen print the photo. Using a UV printer or a RISO machine, you can print the image directly, with minimal editing in Photoshop. We usually try not to impose a technique, but rather to find an interesting solution for a specific image.
Is it possible to learn Toyobo photo-etching techniques at MASEREEL?
Certainly, we can work on this with you.
What are the dimensions of the plotter?
The Océ Plotter is 90 cm wide. The paper is on a roll, so you can choose the height yourself.
Should I worry about my health in the studios?
All the necessary protective equipment is available on-site. However, it is always useful to bring your own box of vinyl gloves. If you have chronic health problems, or if you are pregnant, it is best to tell the studio coordinators in advance.
Can I bring an assistant?
Residents are expected to work autonomously in the studio. If you need an assistant (e.g. for medical reasons), this can be discussed with the studio coordinators.
