Curating the Woodland
MASEREEL is today not only an indoor artistic space, but also a living environment where artists with diverse backgrounds come together, reflect critically on their practice and enter into dialogue with one another.
From our unique wooded surroundings in Kasterlee — a key source of inspiration for many residents and visitors — grew the long-term initiative Curating the Woodland, launched in 2019. Every few years, MASEREEL invites a contemporary artist to create a site-specific intervention that engages with the landscape and the rhythm of the domain.
The first intervention was realised in the summer of 2020. Since then, Curating the Woodland has continued to evolve. In 2025, three new artistic projects were added to the site as part of the RHIZOMA biennial, marking a significant new chapter in the development of the woodland as an open-air artistic environment.
