MASEREEL

MASEREEL unfolds as a site of ongoing exchange and development, where artists from diverse contexts come together, question and recalibrate their practices, and enter into dialogue with one another.

Embedded within a wooded landscape in Kasterlee — both a material and imaginative point of departure — this context has given rise to Curating the Woodland, a long-term trajectory that extends artistic practice into the surrounding environment. Rather than framing the landscape as backdrop, the project approaches it as a shifting field of relations, attuned to temporalities, uses and forms of inhabitation. Since its inception in 2019, it has developed through a series of invitations to artists to articulate site-responsive interventions.

The resulting works are dispersed across the site, including three interventions realised in 2025 within the framework of the RHIZOMA biennial. Each engages a specific location while remaining open in its meaning and use, gradually forming an evolving constellation that reconfigures the experience of the grounds.

Visiting
The interventions are accessible during MASEREEL’s public programme — including exhibition openings, public events and OPEN MASEREEL — when the site is open in its entirety. The installations by Pei‑Hsuan Wang and Wim Cuyvers remain accessible to the public outside opening hours.
