Framing and reframing

During the winter of 2024–25, Vaast Colson stayed in the iconic artist residences that made MASEREEL’s residency programme possible for more than 50 years and are now making way for a new artist pavilion. The nine abandoned shower curtains inspired him to create the hybrid work Framing and reframing (Gradually experiencing the consequence(s) of being in the world).
Each edition consists of a stretched shower curtain mounted on aluminum with two manual screenprints. This intervention shifts the curtain’s orientation from vertical to horizontal, evoking a landscape format. The work is activated by the artist through performative additions to the front, back, and underside—each of which is documented. The sound piece I’m just a hummin’ and a wailin’ is also part of the edition.
This edition was developed within the framework of RHIZOMA 2025.
