In Carlotta Bailly-Borg’s work, images move freely between vegetable, animal and human forms. Her figures slide in and out of each other and seem to keep repositioning themselves. They appear and disappear at the same time, balancing between attraction and repulsion, isolation and fusion. This visual world does not unfold as a linear story, but as a series of leaps, akin to a cinematic montage, in which fragments follow each other as in a dream. Repetition, shift and variation form the rhythm of the work.

In the five provocative etchings that Bailly-Borg made for Hibernus #3, this translates into a visual language of fragmentation, distortion and overlap. Images and motifs pile up without a fixed hierarchy, balancing between order and abundance.

Bailly-Borg’s working method starts from the printing process itself. Proof and final image are close to each other and mutually influence each other: each print does not form a closure, but a shift within the same trajectory. The image therefore does not appear as a fixed result, but as a temporary moment within a material and intimate process.

During Hibernus #3 , the artist also shows a zinc plate, transformed into a sculptural object. This plate was used for one of the five etchings shown and still bears the etched image from which the prints originated. As both a carrier and an image, she enters into a dialogue with the prints and makes the creative process physically present in the space.
