The ‘feeding ground’ of Roger Raveel, one of the most important Belgian artists of the second half of the twentieth century, is his immediate environment. The things around him acquire a universal meaning in his paintings, drawings, prints, objects and installations: the man, the woman, the plants, the bicycle trailer, the advertising, the technology, … are seen in time and space.

During the summer of 1990 the Frans Masereel Centrum presented a retrospective exhibition of his work.
