Breadwinning

With Breadwinning, Park created a unique clock. Each clock features a pigeon as the hour hand and a piece of bread as the minute hand, alongside a conventional second hand. Once a day, the pigeon’s head appears to be stuck in the bread, then slowly frees itself as time passes. Every edition of the clock is different, each with a distinct pigeon and type of bread.
The edition is inspired by Park’s installation based on ball-maze puzzles and the striking image of pigeons entangled in discarded bread. This unintentional suffering—where pigeons cannot free themselves from their “bread necklaces”—forms the core of the work. The idea evolved into a personal symbol, reminding her of her grandmother’s struggle with Parkinson’s disease and the inability to be fully present in one’s own body.
This work was created as part of Hold the Space. All proceeds go directly to the artist.
Sold out at MASEREEL. Some editions might still be available directly via the artist.
