The past few years, the Dutch-Belgian artist Jacqueline Peeters has developed a unique painting practice with occasional excursions into drawing and etching. At the invitation of MASEREEL in 2023, Jacqueline Peeters ventured into screen printing for the first time. Even in these new works, text, a vital element in her practice, remains a deliberate choice.
Sommer, an atypical painting by Max Beckmann that has carried several titles over time, served as an inspiration for multiple new works, including three limited-edition prints: Sommertag, Kleine Gebirgslandschaft and Sommer. In each of these prints, Peeters transformed the multifaceted nature of Beckmann’s creation into a new work. For instance, Sommertag not only refers to the mountain landscapes that appear in Beckmann’s oeuvre but also reflects the tumultuous events of the Gaza war.
This work was developed within the framework of Hibernus #2.
