MASEREEL

In 2008, De Garage (Cultuurcentrum Mechelen), in collaboration with the Frans Masereel Centre and at the request of Jan Verlinden, initiated a project on free graphic art. Six established artists (Ronny Delrue, Honoré d’O, Kendell Geers, Vincent Geyskens, Tina Gillen, and Pieter Vermeersch) explored the role and contemporary relevance of graphic art within both contemporary art and their own practice.

The project resulted in a portfolio of works and a box containing six artists’ books and one text volume. The publication links graphic art to the artists’ recent oeuvre and documents their trajectories. Interviews were conducted by Mieke Mels; a contextual essay was written by Johan Pas.
