In La dilution du langage n°1–12, created at the Frans Masereel Centre for Hibernus#1, Emmanuelle Quertain intertwines visual and linguistic motifs around the concept of diluted language. Through digital scans of paintings and dictionary entries, distorted ‘glitch’ images emerge that explore the fluidity of language and image. This process questions both the authority of language and the market value of art.
The project takes on an alternative form in the publication EQSNC: a mail-order catalogue presenting the series as ‘small models’, using a specific technique and time frame, inspired by Duchamp’s Boîte-en-valise.
