Form Study is a graphic-sculptural work by Marlie Mul, created for Hold the Space. The edition reflects her ongoing exploration of structure, material, and technique — the driving force behind her practice. Mul experiments with photogravure, using laser-cut acrylic plates to print freely shaped forms. By combining two sheets of paper — one of which is physically curled — she creates a spatial composition held together with pins.
For the photogravures, Mul uses studio photographs documenting her sculptural process. Intended as internal records of her precise and deliberate working method, these images are abstracted and presented ornamentally, paying homage to the historical aesthetics of photogravure.
With Form Study, Mul investigates the sculptural potential of printmaking, in an installation where form, experimentation, and presentation converge.
This work was created as part of Hold the Space. All proceeds go directly to the artist.
