Melissa Gordon

Female Readymades (Rope, chain, bra, ‘Ninth Street Women’, ripped paper, painting)

The American-British artist Melissa Gordon creates monumental works in which themes such as the body, consumption, gender, feminism, and gestures take center stage. She often combines a wide range of materials and technique, such as screen printing, painting, and photography, within a single work.

In 2018, Gordon began the series Female Readymades, in which she explores how female artistic gestures in art history have often been appropriated or overlooked by men. At the invitation of MASEREEL, the artist realized an ambitious print project within this series, produced in a limited edition. Each edition consists of four precisely aligned sheets, presented in a frame designed by the artist. Layered over a black grid are various elements such as a rope, chains, and a book fragment. Each edition also includes a unique monoprint, giving every work its own visual narrative.

This edition was developed within the framework of Hibernus #2. Each work comes in an artist-designed frame and contains a unique monoprint. Please contact us to inquire which variants are still available, as well as information about delivery times.
