MASEREEL

In 2025, MASEREEL acquired the monumental collage ‘De Pantofiel’ (2005–2025) by Patrick Van Caeckenbergh. Since 6 June 2026, this work has found a permanent home in MASEREEL’s new artists’ pavilion, which was officially inaugurated that same day.

At the invitation of MASEREEL, Patrick Van Caeckenbergh also produced an artist’s publication of the same name, containing both a photographic reproduction of the collage at near-life size and an accompanying instruction manual, written by the author Tom Van Imschoot.

The room-wide collage ‘De Pantofiel’ essentially consists of a homemade noticeboard, constructed from hundreds of clippings and a single sculptural addition drawn from the most diverse spheres. At a glance, it evokes the entire archive of visual, textual and conceptual sources that have inspired and challenged Van Caeckenbergh’s work for decades. It is not only the individual fragments that catch the eye, but also the whole, which presents itself as a buzzing swarm.
