You Used to Be Part of Something
FOCUS: The Drawings
Sunday 14.12 at 14:00 — M HKA, Antwerp
As part of a multi-year research project with MASEREEL, art historian and author Dirk Pültau examines the role of drawing within the oeuvre of Vaast Colson. Starting from the original drawing You Used to Be Part of Something, he enters into conversation with the artist about how this work unfolds throughout his wider practice.
“U Used to be part of something,” a small figure calls out to a smiling slice of cake. The little man and the cake in this drawing can be seen as symbols for the two halves of Vaast Colson’s artistic practice. As a public artist, Colson often collaborates and sees himself as part of a larger whole. At the same time, he works in complete isolation on a “private oeuvre” that has barely seen the light of day.
In a lecture followed by a conversation, Vaast Colson and Dirk Pültau depart from the installation and preparatory drawings for U Used to be Part of Something to explore the tension between part and whole, individual and collective, public and private within the artist’s entire practice.
The event is open to the public; no advance registration needed.
